Improvements to Parks Edinburgh Calton Hill

Client
City of Edinburgh Council

Project Description
Environmental improvements to the Calton Hill area of Parks, Edinburgh. The Project objectives were to improve safety, discourage antisocial behaviour, improve the historic setting of these parks and the collection of monuments and memorials found within them, encouraging the Park’s use by residents and visitors of the city.

Key Issues
Calton Hill and the surrounding Parks were associated with antisocial behaviour, especially at nighttime. Shrub clearance and selected tree felling works improved the open character of the parks enabling natural surveillance, respecting the historic character and setting of the parks restoring historic views over the city.

Services Provided
Design documentation, extensive community consultation / Edinburgh City Council liaison, construction design, contract documentation and supervision all undertaken in-house.
