Cambuslang Park Masterplan

Client
South Lanarkshire Council

Project Description
The preparation of masterplan proposals, public consultation, management plans and detailed costs for the development of an Historic Restoration and Development Plan for Cambuslang Park, South Lanarkshire. The process included historic research into the history of the Park, which included a canalised burn and Edwardian stone and metalwork. There was considerable Public Consultation associated with the project including with a recently formed ‘Friends of’ Group. The project has successfully achieved HLF stage 1 and stage 2 funding and commenced on site in January 2011.

Key Issues
Community engagement and participation was considered vital to both the bid and to the future of the Park, which had been affected by perceived anti-social behaviour. The development of the masterplan attempted to consider community aspirations, the historic context and the long-term sustainability of the proposals. The size and nature of the Park dictated that careful assessment of costs and priorities were essential.
