The Helix, Falkirk Strategic Environmental Assessment

Ironside Farrar were commissioned to produce the SEA and the HRA for the Falkirk Helix proposals. The Helix Plan encompasses some 400ha of land within Falkirk Council’s boundary, connecting Falkirk with Grangemouth. The site stretches between the two towns, from Carron Works in the north-west to Polmont in the south-east.

The Helix Plan covered three themes of People, Place and Enterprise to:

  • engage communities to create a new green heart at the centre of a reconnected area;
  • inspire people about place making and design quality to lift aspirations through participatory public arts; and
  • manage a new landscape and place through local decision making and delegated authority; create new opportunities for the local economy.

Preparation of material for the suite of stakeholder consultation events. Co-ordination of multi-disciplinary team.

The HRA provided an assessment of potential impacts on the Firth of Forth SPA and its wintering bird interest during construction and operation of the canal extension. Consultation with SNH and Falkirk Council to agree appropriate mitigation measures
