Landscape Character Assessments

Landscape Character Assessment is a specialist skill requiring adoption of a formal and structured methodology to offer robust reporting and consistent and auditable output. Landscape is important – it expresses the relationship between people and place- and it is a shared and collective resource valued by communities. Understanding the landscape and its contribution, value, vulnerability and sensitivity to change and the contribution of land management needs a systematic approach.

This approach like many parts of landscape assessment needs to be progressed through clear stages with peer review, stakeholder and client input at each stage from Inception, Desk Stage Assessment, Landscape Characterisation, Landscape Evaluation and Reporting.

Major Landscape Character Assessments we have undertaken include

  • Forth & Clyde Canal Assessment
  • Glasgow Schools Landscape Character
  • Clyde Valley Orchards
  • Water of Leith Landscape Character
  • A1 Haddington to Dunbar Expressway
  • Ark Hill Windfarm Landscape Character
