Senior Ecologist (Edinburgh)


The Role:

Ironside Farrar are looking for an experienced senior ecologist to join our award-winning Edinburgh practice.

The successful applicant will work within the EIA team as well as alongside our wider environmental, planning, landscape and design teams on a number of high profile and challenging projects. We deliver Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) other forms of environmental planning advice and assessment for a range of clients and project types in Scotland and the UK.

We have successfully worked with trusted external ecological sub-consultants and anticipate this will continue on major and complex projects. We would however like to strengthen and build our own in-house ecological capacity. One area of growth within the Practice is delivering on biodiversity enhancement and biodiversity net gain across our projects and the importance of early ecological survey and advice as part of iterative development design.

We are driven to secure best landscape, environmental and ecological outcomes from all our commissions and work closely with other professionals in delivery of a portfolio of projects for private and public sector clients across a diverse range of developments including energy, minerals, transport and urban development as well as input to strategic planning and assessment.

You will contribute fully to multi-disciplinary teams and projects. You must have an excellent standard of fieldwork, graphic and written communication and presentation and enjoy a fast paced and varied workload.

Senior Planning Monitoring Officer and Environmental Auditor


The Role:

Ironside Farrar are looking for an enthusiastic senior PMO to join our award-winning Edinburgh practice.

Ironside Farrar are sector leading in the delivery of specialist Planning Monitoring Officer (PMO) services to support Scottish Government (Energy Consents Unit) and Local Planning Authorities and individual developers. The requirement for a PMO is a typical requirement of major energy consents as well as other major / long term projects to oversee compliance with environmental and planning conditions. Our environment team is currently providing PMO services on a range of projects including:

The role involves regular (minimum monthly and sometimes weekly) site visits to projects across Scotland as well as environmental review and audit of documents (e.g. EIA and documents submitted to discharge planning conditions). Our PMO team need to be confident on site and in construction environments so a level of site experience is essential. The role may suit an ECOW looking to broaden their scope.

The successful applicant will work alongside our existing experienced PMO team on a range of existing commissions. We would support the successful applicant in achieving a lead environmental auditor qualification in line with ISO 14001.

Landscape Architect / Planner (Edinburgh)


The Role:

Ironside Farrar are looking for an enthusiastic landscape architect or landscape planner to join our award-winning Edinburgh practice.

The successful applicant will deliver Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) alongside our environmental planning and design teams on a number of high profile and challenging projects. The role will also involve providing early landscape planning and landscape frameworks as part of masterplanning commissions and increasingly working closely with colleagues to integrate a ‘landscape led’ approach. We are also involved in other forms of landscape planning advice and assessment for a range of clients and project types in Scotland and the UK.

Associate Geo-Environmental Specialist/Geologist (Edinburgh)

Ironside Farrar is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced geo-environmental specialist/ geologist experience to join our award-winning Edinburgh practice. The right candidate will join a successful business with an excellent reputation and will undertake a variety of office-based reporting, client facing activities, fee bids, fieldwork, and project management across a wide range of projects.

The role provides opportunities to work across a number of areas including Site Investigation, Contaminated Land, Geotechnical and Mineral Assessments, Coal Mining Risk Assessments plus EIA, Waste Management and Compliance Monitoring – to name but some! The advert is for an associate role but opportunity also exists for the right candidate with either more or less experience.

East Central Belt based, you must have excellent written communication and analytical skills and enjoy a fast paced and varied workload.
